🧠 Memory Tricks

Six techniques used by memory champions.

Chunking

Break long strings of information into smaller groups. Phone numbers become 3–3–4 groups because working memory holds ~4 chunks at a time.

Method of Loci

Place items to remember along a familiar mental route (your house, your walk to work). Retrieve them by walking the route in your mind.

Peg System

Attach each number to a shape or rhyme (1=sun, 2=shoe...). Link what you want to remember to the peg with a vivid image.

Story Method

Weave the items into an absurd story. The stranger the story, the stickier the memory.

Spaced Repetition

Review at growing intervals — 1 day, 3 days, 1 week. Recall gets stronger every time you almost forget.

Elaborative Encoding

Ask 'why?' and connect new info to what you already know. Meaning beats rote every time.
